My Story
For as long as I can remember, I've struggled with being overweight and unhappy with my appearance. I've always been an emotional eater, turning to sugary treats and ultra-processed foods to cope with my emotions. This habit led to a devastating diagnosis: Type 2 diabetes at just 24 years old.
At my heaviest, I was bingeing on sugar products and processed foods daily. My addiction had taken over, and I'd often sneak away to my car to devour treats, then dispose of the evidence. This vicious cycle continued at home, where I'd indulge in carb-heavy dinners and desserts.
I knew I needed to make a change, but my GP's dietary advice fell short. It wasn't until I discovered the Keto diet that I started to see some progress. Initially, I lost weight and increased my veg intake, but I soon realized I'd replaced sugary treats with desserts made from nut flours and sweeteners.
It wasn't until I found a supportive community through the Quit Sugar Summit that everything clicked into place. Hearing others share their struggles with sugar addiction made me realize I wasn't alone. I finally understood that my sugar cravings were a symptom of a deeper issue – an addiction that needed to be addressed.
Joining a community of like-minded individuals who understood my struggles was a turning point for me. For the first time, I felt supported and empowered to overcome my addiction. And now, I'm proud to say that I'm not only living a healthier, happier life, but I'm also helping others to overcome their own sugar dependency.
I've come full circle, from struggling with my own addiction to supporting others on their journey to freedom. It's an incredible feeling, knowing that I can make a difference in someone's life.
